The way I start my morning

How do you start your morning? Do you put an alarm on? Do your kids wake you up? Do you let the natural light wake you up? Then rush into everything?

My morning routine was pristine before having Issa! I woke up naturally around 6am, did either yoga or pilates at home, wash my face, tongue scrape, have my hot water with lemon and walk the dogs before getting ready to go to work.

And post Issa? It all got thrown out the window. But now that he’s older, I can slowly start incorporating my morning routine again. I was putting an alarm on for 6:10am (in the hopes that Issa will wake up around 6:30) and do a 15~20min meditation in bed, as soon as I turn off the alarm. I’ve been on a 35 day streak and it’s definitely helping me become more aware of my emotions and when I’m losing my patience and staying cool. I use Insight Timer and their guided meditations are amazing with so many great teachers. If Issa comes into my bed and we wake up together, I let him choose a 3 minute meditation and he sits in my lap and we meditate together (1 out of 5 days is successful, and the other days he just keeps saying “mama, mama” and I have to stop), but I’m determined to keep going!

I still scrape my tongue every morning and wash my face either before or after I make Issa his breakfast, depending on how hungry he is. A trick my kinesiologist told me is to put a pinch of Celtic Sea Salt under my tongue before having my first drink in the morning, so that when I do have that first sip the cells are able to absorb the water more efficiently with the minerals from the salt. I’ve changed my hot lemon water to several drop of umeboshi vinegar in hot water for the anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-aging, antioxidant rich effect.

Then I take a whole handful of supplements (which I can go into in another post), and no breakfast. Yes I do a 16hr intermittent fasting from dinner until lunch.

BUT, I do have this perfect matcha around 9am (so technically I’m breaking my fast…). It’s actually what I look forward to in the morning at work. I make it and put it in my thermos cup and it keeps warm!

Perfect Matcha

1/2 tbs Matcha powder

1 tbs Collagen powder

1 tsp MCT oil

1 tsp Grass fed organic butter

1 tbs Coconut milk powder

1 Cup hot water

Just add everything in a blender and blend for at least 40 seconds so that the oils emulsify with the matcha and create a beautiful glossy green colour.

Drink while it’s hot!

Now to the avocado mousse. I’ve been going keto for a few days and at the start I still wanted something sweet and this was a perfect sugarless treat that both Issa and I enjoyed!

The picture doesn’t do it justice.
